The History of Sterling Hills Golf Club

For many years lemons were the major agricultural product in Ventura County.  But in the 1980’s and 1990’s these orchards began to give way to homes and recreational facilities. Beginning in 1996, traveling along Beardsley Road you could witness a huge lemon orchard being transformed into a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course soon to be named Sterling Hills Golf Club.

Opening on October 1, 1999, Sterling Hills became the only public golf course in Ventura County that was designed from the ground up as a golf community. The Clubhouse was still under construction for the first few months the course was in operation and golfers had to check in at a portable trailer. January of 2000 saw the completion of the handsome new Clubhouse, which was a welcome addition to a stellar golf course.

The gently rolling topography made this land a natural for use as a golf course. Course architects Robert Muir Graves and Damian Pascuzzo took full advantage of the land in designing the challenging golf course surrounded by beautiful homes.
